When booking your Reservations/PNR on www.aa.com ----- you MUST follow these procedures for AA to automatically issue a refund (of the fare purchase, or mileage being used), otherwise the refund or discount of miles will not be processed and it will be denied.
ALL OF THESE STEPS MUST BE FOLLOWED EXACTLY BEFORE TICKETING.
AA WILL NOT MAKE EXCEPTIONS FOR REFUNDS IF NOT DONE CORRECTLY.
Booking on www.aa.com seems easier and less restrictive than booking the AA20 through MY ID TRAVEL.

• NEW REQUIREMENT --- For ALL TRAVEL the traveler MUST be an ADV member and their ADV number MUST be in their AA Traveler Profile (of the retirees' travel list) and in the PNR --- at least 24 hrs. in advance of ticketing (not the travel date). If you 'fail' to include the ADV number in the Travelers Profile Record of the retiree in The Travel Planner --- the discount will not be applied.
The process for adding the ADV number to the traveler's profile is explained in the Travel Guide and in the section below,
• NEW REQUIREMENT --- BUSINESS OR LEISURE TRAVEL
You (or the traveler) creating the PNR MUST specify if travel is for business or leisure travel when booking the reservations on www.aa.com --- This must be done before ticketing.
If you 'fail' to indicate "LEISURE' --- the discount will not be applied.

WHEN PURCHASING A FARE TICKET:
When purchasing a fare/ticket - you must follow the Rules & Restrictions of the fare/class of service being purchased. This includes when you can receive a seat assignment, boarding groups at airports, airport standby rules for a different flight (if your fare permits it), and and all other fare rules, and/or refunds.
• The 20% DISCOUNT FOR PURCHASED tickets (AA20) will be processed automatically by AA.
(Refunds are generally processed within 48 hrs. of when the reservations are confirmed and the ticket is purchased.)
A confirmation email will be sent to the email included in the PNR indicating the final fare (including taxes/fees) billed to your credit card after the 20% discount is applied.

WHEN PURCHASING A 20% DISCOUNT AADVANTAGE MILEAGE TICKET:
YOU MUST ALSO FOLLOW ALL THE STEPS INCLUDED IN THE ABOVE SECTION, OTHERWISE, THE REFUNS OF THE MILES WILL NOT BE PROCESSED. THERE ARE NO EXCEPTIONS,
• The 20% ADV MILEAGE discount (refunds of miles) for AAdvantage® award tickets will be processed automatically by AA.
